The four things to do now to find a new job in Q1, 2024

We are very nearly at the end of 2023 and many of us are winding down our work for the year and thinking about spending some quality time with our loved ones.

However, if the extra downtime is making you realise that you need a career change in Q1 when the market picks up, then don't waste these precious last few days of December - there are four simple things you can do right now to hit the ground running in January.

Write your CV

Ok, so you probably don't need to rewrite your CV from scratch but you probably do need to make some key changes to ensure you have all of your great achievements from 2023 listed and that the format and content is selling you in the right way.

Please have a look at my previous blog on CV writing for inspiration:

Optimise your LinkedIn profile

Once your CV is sparkling like a Christmas tree, it is time to align your LinkedIn profile to ensure that all of the new information is also available to recruiters and hiring managers who may already be thinking about their 2024 headcount. LinkedIn is the best way to let the market know what you can do and the best way to connect with the people who may be hiring or who can help you to find a new job.

Please have a look at my earlier blog on strengthening your LinkedIn profile:

Make live job adverts work for you

Let's face it, looking through hundreds of generic job adverts on LinkedIn or a similar job board is not a lot of fun! However, don't forget that you can set up alerts for each of your job searches online, so that new roles will land in your inbox as soon as they arise. This is the definition of a passive job search, but it should be a key plank of any structured approach to finding a new role in 2024.

Earlier in 2023, I wrote this blog about finding a new role:

Wish a recruiter Happy Christmas!

This is the perfect time of year to reach out to connections, including recruiters, using the excuse of wishing them the complements of the season to get your name and CV in front of them for January! Even if they don't respond now, your details are in their inbox and database for next year and you can follow up in early January to give them a nudge.

In summary

It is always the perfect time of year to be proactive and plan for the future. If you would welcome a conversation about your career and the support which Mercury Career Coaching can offer you, then please get in touch.
